June 2026 Update

This month's update brings a new way to manage permissions, along with many general fixes. The update took place during the evening of 18th June. For the full list of changes, see v3.5 in the Changelog.

Describe your data structure ✍️

In the Designer app, we've added an optional Description field to designs, interfaces and individual attributes. It lets you provide a helpful explanation of what's being represented, the data stored and its intended usage.

This helps other users understand your company data structure and lays the groundwork for more effective data querying in future updates.

We've updated hundreds of system designs/interfaces with descriptions and invite you to update your own!

New Permissions Explorer🔐

The new Permissions Explorer gives administrators a way to understand and control who can access what.

It succeeds the Permissions Manager in Asset Classic, providing a dedicated, standalone experience that offers greater visibility, context and functionality. Key improvements:

  • Manage roles and groups alongside permissions.
  • Visualise the relationships between roles, groups and category objects.
  • Set permissions on app entities, e.g. boards, hubs, item canvases (coming soon).
  • Show related access policies.

To get started, open the Permissions app and select Permissions.

Overview

The Permissions Explorer displays four columns.

Roles

  • A role is a bundle of groups. If a user is added to a role, they inherit the combined permissions of its groups.
  • Select a role to highlight its groups and any categories those groups have permissions for.
  • Use the bottom buttons to create, edit and delete roles.

Groups

  • A group is a set of permissions for specific category objects. If a user is added directly to a group, they inherit its permissions.
  • Select a group to highlight any categories it has permissions for and any roles it belongs to.
  • Use the bottom buttons to create, edit and delete groups.

Categories

  • A category is a type of resource.
  • Select a category to show its objects in the next column.

Objects

  • Select a category object to show its permissions on the right.
  • To set its permissions, you must select a group.

Selections and highlights

Select up to one item in each column. Use any columns you like, in any order. When you select something, the things it relates to are highlighted with badges:

  • Chain badge – this is linked to the selected role or group.
  • Padlock badge – this contains permissions for the selected category object.

You can explore and set permissions in multiple ways. Select the group first and then the category object. Or select the object first and see which groups already have permissions for it.

To start over, select Deselect all (top-right).

Attribute permissions

If the category is Designs or Interfaces, you can also set permissions for an object's attributes.

Select an object to show its permissions on the right. On the first tab, set the default attribute permissions that apply automatically.

To configure individual attributes, open the second tab and select an attribute. A reminder of the default permission is shown. Use the override attribute permissions section to change it.

If the attribute is inherited from an interface, it can't be overridden on the object. Instead, follow the displayed link to set the permission on the interface itself. Be aware, this will affect other designs/interfaces that implement the interface.
